One of the most effective methods to inspire your employees is to enable them to do their job. The worst discouragements that workers experience are roadblocks put in their way that prevent them from doing their work efficiently. These roadblocks take on titles like plans, processes, policies, initiatives and incentives. Do not get me wrong, all the above are meant to help the workers do their job better but most often, they promote complacency, inefficiency, mediocrity, and indifference. Instead of telling your staff how to do their jobs, you would serve them better by helping them gain some confidence and competency. You will discover you will empower your workers to do their job, in case you follow the steps listed below.
Give your workers some space to do their work. No two people are created equally so quit attempting to compel them into descriptions of their positions that don’t capitalize on their strengths and interests. Get to know them personally to understand their personality types, learning styles and communication. You would be better-placed understanding how our workers operate instead of having them work in a manner that appears ideal for you.
Most of the managers focus on what fulfills them. Employees know that if you are only motivated to meet your needs, then they will not do anything differently. Rather than this, ask them what you can do for them. Come up with an action plan and set a deadline and make sure that you live up to it. Ensure that you do not give them all the solutions. Your workers ask solutions from you because they want to absolve themselves from responsibility. However, when they ask for solutions from you, ask what their suggestions would be and how they’d want to handle a special problem. When you do this, you will be surprised about how you will gain a lot of confidence in their abilities.
Give them some incentives like a dress down day. If nearly all of your workers love coffee, you would get an office coffee service to serve coffee to you as you work. You could also permit them to work from home for one day weekly and find out whether it will raise their productivity. Also get to know them on a personal level, know their birthdays, anniversaries and other special days in their lives. This will make them feel motivated and will work hard and ensure the success of your business.
When your employees do a good job, let them know immediately through a personal email. You may also call them and tell them how happy you are with their day’s performance. If you let them know today, it would be better than giving them a framed certificate a month from now.
